Direct employment by the brown coal industry (of around 1800 employees) accounts for around $150m worth of expenditure per annum with 500 to 1000 contractor roles contributing an additional $300m.

 

Combined, the coal mining and the electricity supply sectors are key employers in the Latrobe City area, accounting for 6.7 per cent of all employment in the area.
