All Latrobe Valley generators recognise their responsibility to conduct business with as little impact on the local and global environment as practicable. This includes a long standing commitment to responsible, sustainable business management. Every effort is made to balance responsibilities as an essential service provider with the environmental, social and economic needs of stakeholders, customers and the communities in which they operate.

Environmental responsibility extends beyond efficient management to meet today's requirements. Programs have been implemented that continually review and improve environmental performance. These include a corporate social responsibility policy, environmental management system and environmental improvement plan public reporting. Environmental management also includes a commitment to tree planting programs, land rehabilitation and the enhancement of wetlands and nature reserves.

Given the increasing demand for electricity and the current state of generation technology, brown coal electricity generation will remain an integral part of Australia's electricity generation portfolio for the foreseeable future.
