History
PowerWorks was officially opened in November 1994 following an extensive refurbishment of the SECV‟s Morwell Visitors‟ Reception Centre.
PowerWorks was initially operated by Generation Victoria, the corporatized generating arm of the SECV, to “ensure broad community awareness of the history, operations and policy initiatives of the Victorian power industry”.
Shortly after the opening of PowerWorks, Generation Victoria ceased to exist and the individual Latrobe Valley generators were corporatized and subsequently privatised.
The new entities became PowerWorks shareholders and a Board of Directors was established.
The current shareholders are Loy Yang Power, TRUenergy Yallourn and International Power Hazelwood who provide significant funding towards the operation of this facility and actively support its ongoing development.
